| At the Kingsland Rugby Club this 21st century we want to honour the memory of the original members of this Club who helped build our great City of Auckland and were instrumental in developing EDEN PARK which was its home ground.
In 2011 our city is among the many in New Zealand which will play host to international teams coming to our shores to participate in that great spectacle which is the Rugby World Cup. EDEN PARK; our old home ground will host the final of the Rugby World Cup tournament and it is our intent to see that those pioneers of the Kingsland Rugby Club who had the vision to initiate the development of EDEN PARK are at least remembered during the 2011 rugby celebrations in our city; even if only in a small way.
It is a truism that we live in a free society that has been fought for in wars and conflicts around the world. Members of our Rugby Club fought to ensure our freedoms were maintained and we want them to know that their efforts have not gone unnoticed and are appreciated by us; the recipients of their sacrifice.
Harry Barton fought at The Battle of Passchendaele during the First World War and Russell Hayhow served in the Pacific during the Second World War. It is highly probable other members went to war as well; our search of the history books is ongoing.
